What’s the House up to
MPs will today clear the order paper for the House of Assembly in the run-up to next Friday’s Budget statement.
Amendments forced by the UK’s recent withdrawal from the European Union, known as Brexit, will come up for debate, with legislation switching references to the EU with “UK”.
MPs will also discuss legislation aimed at building a new submarine communications cable industry for Bermuda through a cable permit and licensing system.
The debate includes public holidays amendments that would rename Somers Day, the second day of the Cup Match holiday, after the former slave and abolitionist Mary Prince and move the Bermuda Day holiday from the last Friday in May to the Friday before the final Monday of May.
The House will also consider a motion, by the Minister of Education, to take note of the Bermuda College’s annual 2018-2019 report.
