The funeral service and march for Glenn Simmons will go ahead tomorrow — but with precautions.A Bermuda Industrial Union spokeswoman said: “After consultation with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Team within the Ministry of National Security, the BIU wishes to advise its members and friends and family of Brother Glenn Simmons that the march to the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church and the funeral service will take place as originally planned. “However the BIU is advising that social distancing measures will be in place at the home-going service on Sunday to lessen the risk of community transmission.”The spokeswoman said that because of the international coronavirus pandemic, those who are sick or feeling unwell are asked not to attend the service, and to instead honour Mr Simmons’s memory by remaining at home. She added: “As much as we want to mourn Brother Glenn’s death, we are advising against hugging, kissing or other body contact while we are assembled.”Chris Furbert, the BIU president, said: “We are encouraging people to honour Brother Glenn’s memory by being safe and cautious during this difficult time in our history.”
