BHS forced to cancel more exams over Covid-19

A private school has cancelled exams in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bermuda High School said that international examination bodies had pulled the plug on Cambridge and Pearson/Edexcel IGCSE and GCSE examinations worldwide have also been cancelled.

The International Baccalaureate exams were cancelled earlier.

But the school said Cambridge and Pearson/Edexcel had said that all pupils will be awarded grades, using the same principles as the UK GCSE qualifications and that the requirements would be outlined by the exam boards later.

Linda Parker, the BHS head of school, added: “Term three will be very different for Year 11 students than it has been in past years.

“We are working to create a meaningful learning experience for our students which will include some form of final internal assessment to mark the completion of their GCSE programme.

“To this end, their classwork and internal assignments continue to be an important focus and we urge our students to remain motivated and maintain the level of engagement and excellence that they have demonstrated thus far in the programme.”

Ms Parker said: “Our IB and I/GCSE candidates have been working hard for almost two years preparing for these exams.

“We are here to support our students as we navigate this final term of the academic year.

“We will work closely with the relevant examining boards so that our students are not disadvantaged and progress successfully into the next stage of their academic journey, at BHS and beyond.”
