Blind charity continues to operate

A charity devoted to the welfare of blind people is still in operation despite being forced to close its doors because of the Covid-19 crisis.

Vision Bermuda, formerly the Bermuda Society for the Blind, shut last Friday.

However, a spokeswoman said: “The staff are still available to assist our more vulnerable clients who are most at risk and may have urgent needs and very limited or no support.

“We are making calls daily to many of our more vulnerable clients, checking how they are doing, ensuring they are accessing essential public health information and talking to them about how they can best protect themselves.”

She added: “In these unprecedented times, we need to ensure everyone in our community has someone to turn to and someone looking out for them.

“Please make sure your own neighbours are safe and have access to important medications, food and other basics.”

The spokeswoman said clients could also call Vince Godber, a vision rehabilitation professional, on his mobile phone.

She added: “He will be ensuring all is well with them. We will help them to access what they need — food, supplies, meals, medications, up-to-date information, or maybe just reassurance.

“We are committed to keeping our clients safe.”

Dionne Glasford, the Vision Bermuda office administrator, can be contacted on 292-3231.
