Warning from parks over illegal dumping

The parks department warned yesterday it was illegal to dump trash anywhere other than designated garbage dumps after a rash of incidents in public places.A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works warned that polluters faced a fine of up to $5,000 for a first offence and a $10,000 fine for subsequent convictions. The reminder came after the ministry was told dumping was going on at parks and beaches. The spokesman asked the public to dispose of trash responsibly and show respect for garbage collectors and other members of the public. He added that personal hygiene and good sanitary practices were important because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Government’s efforts to prevent its spread.• Anyone with information on offenders should contact the Department of Parks at 236-5902 or by e-mail at parksdept@gov.bm
