Legion sounds alarm over scam calls
The island's war veterans are being used by an unscrupulous scammer, the Bermuda Legion has warned.
Carol Everson, a welfare case worker with the ex-services personnel charity, highlighted that a phone caller had used her name in an attempt to solicit donations. She added the woman, who spoke with a British accent, asked for help and for people to “do something for us at this difficult time”.
Ms Everson said; “Anyone receiving a call like this should make a note of the telephone number and call the Bermuda Legion and the Bermuda Police Service.”
She added the Legion had just finished distribution of groceries and household necessities to vulnerable veterans.
• Any veteran or widow of a veteran who needs help can contact the charity at 293-32975 or 234-1880 or e-mail nosoldierleftbehind@hotmail.com
