Social distances at businesses will be enforced as part of the second phase of relaxed Covid-19 restrictions, the national security minister warned today.Wayne Caines said that, although stores have been allowed to open their doors and restaurants have been given the green light for alfresco dining, businesses must still do their part to curb the spread of Covid-19.Mr Caines said: “With businesses reopening, I cannot stress enough how critical it is that all establishments have the appropriate PPE supplies available for their staff and for their customers. “Procurement of these items is the responsibility of the business.“I am encouraging the public and our businesses to please be mindful and responsible when engaging in these expanded services — there are health protocols and restrictions in place. “If the guidelines are not adhered to in accordance with the Emergency Powers Regulations, this could result in a business being closed.”Mr Caines said police and the Royal Bermuda Regiment will be out in force to make sure people are properly spaced at reopened businesses, PPE and masks are used and that the number of people inside the businesses was limited.Businesses will be given advice if minor breaches are found, but serious or repeated breaches will result in on the spot business closures.Mr Caines added that the Bermuda Coastguard will be on the water over the Bermuda Day holiday weekend and police officers and soldiers will patrol beaches, parks and other public areas to ensure the public follow the rules.To report breaches, call the police at 211 or make an online report at https://portal.police.bm.
