A day after Dandy Town were virtually handed the Coca-Cola First Division title the North Village brass yesterday indicated they will be consulting
by the Bermuda Football Association's decision on Saturday to award Dandy Town with both points from last Sunday's match between the two teams because North Village had used an ineligible player in goalkeeper Dwayne Adams. Village won the game 2-0.
Adams had been declared ineligible because he had not made himself available to train with the Bermuda National Select squad in preparation for tomorrow night's clash against the United States B team at National Stadium.
North Village were summoned to a meeting by the BFA to be told that while Adams had been cleared to play yesterday, the club were being severely penalised for using him in the game against Town by forfeiting the points.
"We are totally disgusted by the decision, we will be seeking legal advice about filing an appeal,'' said Hollis.
Club supporters were more vocal about their disgust during yesterday's game at Bernard Park, which North Village saw beat relegated Southampton 6-0.
Some fans claimed that there would be a form of boycott staged by North Village supporters to protest the "unfair'' action taken by the BFA, and a call would be made for the public to stay away from the forthcoming Friendship Trophy and FA Cup finals at National Stadium.
But Hollis dissociated himself and the club from remarks of that nature.
"Nothing of this nature has been sanctioned by our club. As far as we are concerned North Village has always been in total support of both the national and domestic programmes that exist in local soccer,'' commented the president.
Hollis would not divulge much about the meeting on Saturday, but he did hint that he was disappointed because they did not meet with the full BFA executive committee.
It appears that Saturday's meeting was called primarily to inform North Village of the action that was taken and not to entertain them in any further discussion on the controversy.
BFA administrative assistant David Sabir yesterday refused to comment on the matter, stating that the association had nothing to add to the press release about the matter.
The release read as follows:"At a special meeting of the Executive Committee held on Friday, March 25, 1994 the committee reviewed the referee's report of the match between North Village and Dandy Town of which Mr. Dwayne Adams of North Village is listed and did play in this match.
"In view of the suspension of the aforementioned player, which was communicated to North Village at a subsequent meeting, the match has been forfeited by North Village and both points awarded to Dandy Town in accordance with Section 4, Article 14 under Qualification of Players (Domestic Competitions).
"Please be advised further that the Executive Committee has reviewed the suspension of Adams and have decided to remove the said suspension effective immediately.'' Dandy Town's coach Mark Trott was predictably on a high after his team's victory over St. George's yesterday.
"What was fresh in the mind of the players was if North Village appealed and won it. We wanted to win on the field and we won convincingly. We came down here (Wellington Oval) to win,'' said Trott after the 4-1 triumph.
Adams was pleased to have his suspension lifted, but sad to learn that his team forfeited the points.
"It's nice to have the ban lifted. I don't think they (BFA) will be interested in having me play against the United States this week. In fact I don't think I am fit enough anyway.''
