Bank's double disappointment
Arthur Andersen and Chips Ltd. who emerged as the respective A and B Division champions of the 1994 Evian Corporate Co-ed Volleyball Tournament held last Saturday at Shelly Bay field.
Bank I were defeated by Andersen in the A final while the Bank's second string went down to Chips in the B final.
Price Waterhouse Wildcats had finished the round robin matches of the A division with a 9-1 record, while the Bank were second (7-3) and the US Gangsters and Andersen third and fourth respectively with five wins and five losses.
But in the first semi-final it was Andersen who took the honours, outlasting the Wildcats 15-6, 9-15, 15-10.
And in the other semi-final the Bank cruised to a 15-8, 15-5 win over the Gangsters.
In a closely fought A final the Bank and Andersen traded games before the latter pulled through for a 16-14, 6-15, 15-8 win.
The B Division began the day with 24 teams divided into four-team and three-team pools. The top two teams from each pool, along with the top two third placed teams, moved onto the round of 16, contested over one 15-point game. The surviving eight then advanced to the quarter-finals.
In the semi-finals Chips beat Cooper & Lines 9-15, 15-6, 15-3 and the Bank of Bermuda II beat First Bermuda Securities 15-13, 15-7.
Chips went on to win the final 15-2, 11-15, 15-12.
XL Insurance I defeated BF&M in the consolation final 11-5, 11-3.
A total of 30 teams participated in the tournament.
