Eight-man Somerset frustrate police
Andre Manders played a true captain's innings as he hammered 63 not out and managed to stay around until the end to help his eight-man Somerset team salvage a draw against Police at Police field.
Manders was at the wicket with tail-ender Charles Swan when the game ended -- after they accepted an offer for bad light.
Even though they were playing short, Somerset made a gallant effort to win with Manders spearheading their fightback with his spirited innings -- one that saw him stay to the wicket for 150 minutes, hitting eight fours and a six.
Jermaine Warner was the other top bat for Somerset with 55.
Henderson Hoyte led Police's batting with 62 runs while opener Dennis Archer followed with 57. Perry Maybury took four wickets while James Swan had three.
Southampton 263-8 dec.
Nationals 107-4 Stevie Lightbourne hammered 93 and Quinton Burch struck 56 for Southampton but the rain was the big winner of this game at Southampton Oval when play was stopped at 5.30 p.m.
In addition to Lightbourne's fine knock -- he hit 10 fours and six sixes -- and the major contribution by Burch, Olin Jones scored 43, Clevie Wade 28 and David Stoneham 14 for the home team who had a shaky start after losing the wickets of openers Kwame Tucker (nought) and Keith Wainwright (six) for only 10 runs.
Lightbourne and Burch put on 160 runs for the third wicket during which period the former was the dominating partner. Spinner Bruce Perinchief, back in the Nationals' line-up after a long lay-off, was costly but still was their top bowler with four for 85 off 15.5 overs. Medium-fast bowler Chris Wright had two for 54.
Nationals made a promising reply with opener Gary Knight leading the way with 30. Wright followed with 29 while veteran Jeff Pitcher was not out with 26.
Ryan Belboda was the best of the Southampton bowlers with two for 36.
St. David's 118 Willow Cuts 122-3 An undefeated fourth-wicket stand of 93 runs between Vivian Simons and Richard Basden helped Willow Cuts to a seven-wicket victory over St. David's at Somerset Cricket Club.
Simons struck 51 not out and Basden was undefeated with 31, joining in a partnership that saw them rescue the team after they were reeling at 29 for the loss of three wickets. The only other batsmen in double figures was skipper and opener Dexter Basden with 17.
Scott Minors was the top bowler for the visitors with two for 43. Earlier, St.
David's ran into deep trouble from the beginning when they lost their first five wickets for 29. There was some resistance from all-rounder Lionel Cann, who was top bat with a classy 62 not out.
Rodney Fubler led Willow Cuts' bowling with four for 28 while Joseph Matthews had two for 19.
Social Club 78 St. George's 80-1 After youngsters Greg Foggo and Troy Hall each claimed three wickets to help dismiss Social Club, captain Wendell Smith polished off the fifth straight win for St. George's with his ninth half-century of the season at Wellington Oval.
Social Club's meagre total took longer than usual -- 45 overs -- after their key batsman Lee Raynor, Sr. batted six minutes short of three hours for a top knock of 30.
After Webster Mills was bowled by Kenny Phillips' second ball of the match and Thomas Brangman had his stumps knocked back by the first delivery from Foggo to leave the visitors in early trouble at four for two, Raynor held up one end in making his former club earn his wicket.
Raynor was eventually bowled by David Adams who supported Foggo and Hall with impressive figures of two for 17 from 15 overs with seven maidens. Foggo took three for six from nine overs with five maidens while Hall, the last bowler used, took three for seven from five overs. The other Social Club batsman in double figures was Desmond Smith with 12.
Wendell Smith and Hall put on 70 for the first wicket and upon Hall's departure for 10, Smith completed his fifty as the winning runs came. The win keeps St. George's in the hunt for a top-four finish.
Flatts 115 Cleveland 118-5 Cleveland stayed in the hunt for a Camel Cup place next season when they took 15 points from their five wicket win over 10-man Flatts at Devonshire Rec.

Corey Lowe led the Cleveland bowling with three for 26 from seven overs while spinner Del Hollis took two for 21 and Grant Smith two for 15. Opening batsman Andrew Richardson led the Flatts batting with 36 of the first 51 runs before he was third out.
John Carey and Brendon Woolridge added 34 for the fifth wicket in their team's biggest stand as both finished with 24. No other batsmen reached double figures.
But 115 was never going to be enough even though Flatts had early success by removing Wayne Smith for nine and Del Hollis without scoring with just 24 on the board.
Grant Smith led the fightback with 46 as he and Carlton Smith (27) added 61 for the third wicket in taking the score to 85. Allan Douglas wrapped up the victory with 26 not out. Carey claimed two for nine from 2.2 overs.
Somerset Bridge 194 Warwick 90-5 Poor light stopped play of this game at White Hill field when Somerset Bridge appeared to be heading to a comfortable victory. The game ended in a tame draw.
Leroy Brangman struck 77 and skipper David (Hixbie) Jones followed with 38 as Somerset Bridge were able to dig themselves out of a hole after caught struggling at 27 for the loss of four wickets. Also among the runs for the home team was Brian Gibbons with 24 and Alfred Carter with 23.
Brangman and Carter joined in an eighth-wicket stand that put on 77, taking the score from 108 to 185. Skipper Hoyt Zuill led Warwick's bowling with three for 55.
Openers Johnny Nusum (55) and Jeffrey James (13) got Warwick off to a decent start when they put on 52 runs, but once Sidney Simmons forced a breakthrough it became a struggle for the remaining batsmen. Simmons eventually dismissed both Nusum and James and finished with three for 15 while Gary Crofton had two for 31.
