the final 16 of the men's team competition at the Darts World Cup in Perth, Australia this week.

Inspired by solid performances from Gregor MacQueen and Vernon Daniels, Bermuda crushed their more fancied opponents in one of the tournament's biggest upsets so far.

But their fairytale run ended at the hands of Norway, although the Bermudians had every opportunity to win that match as well.

Leading 2-0, thanks mainly to Maurice Outerbridge, Bermuda had chance to forge further ahead but MacQueen missed vital doubles in both the third and fifth legs.

This failure to kill off one of the tournament's top teams proved fatal as Norway went on to post a 9-4 victory.

However, their showing so far should have hoisted Bermuda several places up the world rankings and has boosted players' confidence ahead of today's and tomorrow's singles and doubles events.

Meanwhile, in women's team play, Bermuda failed to advance from their group which included the Czech Republic, Uganda and the Netherlands.

Bermuda's ladies defeated Uganda 4-1 before losing narrowly 4-3 to the Czechs, and were then whitewashed 4-0 by the Netherlands, despite steady performances from both Dawn Bealing and Terry Cartwright.
