Overseas swimmers lined up for third spring series meet
as the third Spring Series meet takes place at the BASA pool.
This event marks the final time trial event prior to the National Championships, only two weeks away.
Expected are over 100 swimmers from the three swimming clubs -- Harbour, Sharks and Triangles -- and many will look to achieve the Double A standard that would qualify them for selection to the national team that will travel to Jamaica for the Caribbean Championships later this year.
Meanwhile, senior members Trevor Ferguson, Stephen Fahy, Craig Roberts and Alicia Mullan look toward August's Commonwealth Games as their goal.
In addition several overseas participants are expected to boost the contest with swimmers from Canada and the United States on the card.
Included are Canadians Lisa Flood, currently ranked 10th in the world in the 100 metres breaststroke, and Robert Braknis, winner of the Canadian trials for the Commonwealth Games in the 50 metres freestyle. Another Canadian, Vaughn Thompson, who does both the 100 and 200 metres backstroke, and Puerto Rico's Ricardo Busquets, another freestylist, will also participate.
Also taking part will be a contingent from the famed Brevard Swim Club of Florida.

FERGUSON WINS TWO-MILE RACE ATH Bermudian Emily Ferguson is doing quite well at track and field while attending Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey.
Ferguson, from Pembroke, is a former student of the Bermuda High School For Girls. She is a sophomore at the Academy who recently won a two-mile race at the New Jersey State Prep Track Tournament in Martinsville, New Jersey, with a time of 12 minutes and 47 seconds that placed her 15 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.
The meet was Ferguson's first over the distance. She was a member of the varsity cross-country team during the fall.
