Teachers 21-8 in the final of the seven-a-side tournament for the Cunningham Cup yesterday.

Nine teams played from the four clubs and the semifinals saw the Police B team playing Teachers A and Police A playing Renegades A.

In the first semifinal, Police B gave Teachers A a fright in the first half when they allowed only one Teachers' try by Patrick Cooper for the 5-0 score at the half.

Danny Cozens and John Harris played a bulldozing game, which kept possession away from Teachers.

Police had advanced to the semifinal as a result of winning their pool and defeating Mariners' A team.

In the second half, Teachers came back strong with tries by Cooper, Robbie Dickinson and Andre Simons for the final score of 22-5.

In the second semifinal, Police A faced an experienced Renegades A team with only Alan Oliver, Garreth Davies and Sean Field, having any real seven-a-side knowledge. Renegades won 21-5.

Although Police scored first with a try by Gary Osborne, it was all Renegades after that with Barry Whitehead scoring two tries, Pat Jones one and Phil Heaney converting all three.

In the final, Rengades emerged worthy winners against a strong Teachers challenge after being 7-3 ahead at half-time.

Renegades broke away early in the second half and tries by Pat Jones and Dave Taylor left Teachers with an almost impossible task in the last three minutes.

Nevertheless, it was Teachers who finished the scoring when Ron Hook scored after a fine counter-attack by Andrew Correia, but it was too little too late and Renegades remain undefeated in the '90s at seven-a-side rugby.

yesterday with Teachers B. Renegades A won the Cunningham Cup for the third straight season.
