Ten bouts planned for St. George's
rest of Bermuda brace themselves for the return of boxing to the east end.
Ten bouts have been fixed as St. George's Cricket Club present their Amateur Boxing Card tonight among the spacious confines of Wellington Oval, starting at 8 p.m.
The card has a double feature attraction, with heavyweights Donville Yard and Tom Respondeck of the United States Navy facing off against each other in one, while Mike Whallan, boasting a 31-6 won-loss record, and Robert Stewart (40-7) face each other in the 140-150 pound class. The quartet will do battle for three, three-minute rounds.
Other matches include Steve Rish taking on Tim O'Leary, Edward Waldron contesting Andre Cannonier, Matt Kossart lined up against Vincent Roberts, Stiles Furbert testing his skills against Norton Robinson and Fred Gibbons meeting Timmy Saltus. Each will consist of three, two-minute rounds.
An added attraction includes a special bout that will see Haley Douglas making his debut at the tender age of 40 against 28-year-old Brian Steede.
