Town have to settle for two
Considering the number of clear-cut chances Dandy Town missed, this was a fair result at Wellington Oval yesterday as the visitors scored their first goals of the season in the 63rd and 80th minutes to take home both points.
Town looked like paying the price for some bad misses, particularly in the first half, as Parish came on in spurts and often threatened to take the lead themselves.
Town, keeping the same team that drew with North Village in midweek, were quick to test the new-look Parish defence as their front men Stevie Wade, Carlos Smith and Walter Musson combined well up front. Wade got off a weak shot as early as the fourth minute and then in the 10th minute put another effort wide after a back-pass by Kacy Simons caused a panic in the penalty area as new 'keeper Detroy Smith quickly realised he could not pick up the ball.
Parish, with Walton Burgess, Simons and Albert (Tiger) Wolffe combining well in midfield, gradually came more into the match. Wolffe caused the Town defence some anxious moments with a couple of defence-splitting passes while at the other end Town were still missing the target.
One of the best chances fell to Musson in the 18th minute but he drove his shot over the bar from a good position.
The home defence was stretched again in the 21st minute only to see Wade side-foot over the bar as Smith came out to narrow his angle.
It was all one-way traffic now as Town captain Voorhees Astwood got through on the left to meet a Carlos Smith pass only to see the ball run too far ahead of him as the 'keeper collected.
Parish made a late surge in the first half and got through on a quick break down Sinclair Gibbons' left side in the 33rd minute. His cross to the far post found Irving Burgess who headed over.
Two minutes later Wolffe miskicked right in front of goal and then a couple of minutes before the break Quinn Outerbridge pushed forward from full-back and threaded a pass through the Town defence for Antwon Darrell. However, Anthony Manders was quick to react and made an important save at Darrell's feet before he could get off a shot.
The catalogue of misses for Town continued in the second half with both Astwood and Cann putting efforts wide before Dennis Robinson drove a firm shot just inches over the bar from 25 yards after Musson and full-back Lloyd Christopher combined down the left.
Both teams made their first substitutions in the 58th minute, Pernell Douglas coming on for Carlos Smith and Parish replacing Darrell with Ernest Lathan.
It was Town who benefitted, though, when five minutes later Cann drove in the opening goal from the right side of the penalty box after Musson set him up.
Then, after Wade and Douglas both went close Musson settled the match from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time after substitute Frankie Simons brought down Wade.
