Green and Gold -- for the new-look limited-overs competition, which will be played on a round-robin basis before climaxing in a knockout involving the top four teams from each group.

This competition, which replaces the knockout (formerly sponsored by Budweiser) and will be played in the first three weeks of the season with the 50-overs matches beginning at 11 a.m. Temperatures in the mid-70s are forecast for tomorrow.

The comings and goings of the transfer market suggest there should be some interesting match-ups tomorrow with Hamilton Parish against Willow Cuts and Nationals against Somerset being the pick of the four matches in the Gold section and the Southampton Rangers-Cleveland and Police-Somerset Bridge matches likely to offer the most action in the Green section.

Police, as usually one of the teams to look out for, host a strengthened Somerset Bridge team at Police field. Sidney Simmons will lead the team in the absence of captain David Jones who is off the Island while new signings Brian Gibbons, Gladwin Ingham, Lee Raynor and Craig Brangman have all been included in the Bridge starting team.

Police have picked up Dwayne Leverock from Devonshire Rec. and former youth team bowler Jermaine Tucker from Warwick to fill the void left by the departure of Stevie Lightbourne, Lyndon Raynor and Lloyd Morrison.

"We should field a very strong team throughout the season,'' Police captain Ferdinand Thorne said yesterday. "We hope to be even more competitive, we had some bad games last year, which we should not have had.

"We're looking to get some points early as even the 50-overs competition is round robin. I believe this year we're going to pull ourselves together and play some good cricket.'' The other top match in the Green section should be between Southampton Rangers and Cleveland at Southampton Oval while St.

David's should be favoured over St. George's in the east-end derby match, which will be played at Royal Naval field in Somerset because the St. David's pitch is not ready. at Lord's.

St. George's will be without key players while former player Ken Pitcher will make his debut as St. David's captain.

The other Green match sees Western Stars playing Warwick at St. John's field as new Warwick captain Hoyt Zuill goes up against his former team. Stars are again captained by Gary Brangnman and they will once again rely on the likes of Arnold Manders, Jeff Richardson, Dexter Smith, Allan Brangman and Gregory Sampson.

The match between Hamilton Parish and Willow Cuts should be a close encounter as Ricky Hill and Dexter Basden both return as captains of their respective teams while Nationals travel to Somerset for their home match with Somerset as their field is not ready.

Bailey's Bay and Devonshire Rec., the favourites in this group, have apparently easier opposition in Flatts and Social Club respectively. Rodney Woolridge will again captain Flatts with Troy Dean his vice-captain as Flatts seek to replace departed brothers Millard and Troy Bean with new signing Andrew Richardson of St. George's and youngsters within the club.
