Athletes earn chance for Athens trip

submitted to the International Amateur Athletic Federation to be entered in a draw with athletes from other regions for free trips to the World track and field championships in Athens, Greece, this summer.

Both enjoyed victories during the IAAF World Athletics Day Meet at the National Stadium on Saturday, with Mallory winning the boys 15-19 800 metres in a time of 2:08.5 and the 1500 metres in 4:29.8 Hewey sprinted to victory in the boys 15-19 100 metres in 11.3 seconds.

Some 92 athletes competed at the meet and good performances were also turned in by Sheldon Thompson in the 800 metres open which he won in 1:59.2, Jaynae Dillas who won the girls 13-14 800 and 1500 metres in 2:38.7 and 5:17.1 and Xavier James in the open 100 metres which he won in 11.0 seconds.

Kristina Mahler won both the girls 11-12 400 and 800 metres in 66.7 and 2:47.9 while Jelani Scott won the boys 15-19 200 and 400 metres in 24.6 and 52.7.

Kristen Eve had wins in the 13-14 girls 200 and 400 metres with times of 27.2 and 64.6. Dennis Joell won the 13-14 boys 100 and 200 metres in 12.3 and 24.8.
