BAA completed the league and cup sweep when they defeated Eastern Stars 6-5 in the Challenge Cup final at Young Men's Social Club on Thursday night.

BAA, crowned league champions early on Tuesday after runners-up Cleveland defaulted their final match, were buoyed by a fine team performance in difficult conditions.

One side of the playing area was severely affected by a leakage brought by the night's rains, which made footing difficult.

Bermuda Table Tennis Association officials ruled that the match must go on but it did not produce the best of table tennis from the teams.

BAA clinched the title in the final match when Dave Waltham recorded his second big win on the night. After having beaten Andrew Smith 21-14, 20-22, 21-16 in the opening contest, Waltham eased past out-of-touch Craig Trott 21-9, 21-11 in the decider.

Stars always found themselves coming from behind as they trailed 2-0, 3-2 and 5-3 before the final match.

Dexter Smith won three matches, including a 19-21, 21-18, 21-15 triumph over Nick Frost while Andrew Smith won one.

Frost and Waltham each had two wins for BAA and Mike Lindo came up big with a surprisingly easy 21-11, 21-10 win over Trott in the battle of number three players.

The season draws to a close today with the Bermuda Open at Elliott Primary School (noon start).

Overseas coaches Anthony Cooper and George Cooper will compete and have been seeded one and two.

Dexter Smith, despite having missed most of the season, is ranked third with Nick Frost fourth, Cory Berkeley fifth, Hasan Durham sixth, Rawle Frederick seventh and Derron Trott eighth.

The Coopers are top ranked in the doubles followed by Dexter Smith and Andrew Smith. See Sport Scoreboard for the draws.
