Bermuda's sailing challenge fizzles out
yesterday at the Port Olimpic.
Blythe Walker and Ray DeSilva were 20th and finished 30th overall out of 37 countries in the Men's 470 Class; Paul Lewin was also 20th and placed 21st out of 24 countries in the Europe Dinghy Class; and Reid and Jay Kempe were 17th and placed 20th out of 22 countries.
The respective winners of each class were Jordi Calafat and Fernando Sanchez of Spain, Linda Andersen of Norway, and Ives Loday and Nicolas Henard of France, who just pipped Randy Smyth and Keith Notary in the Tornado Class after the Americans were 11th yesterday. The Frenchmen were second.
Peter Bromby and Paul Fisher, whose regatta ended on Sunday, were Bermuda's most successful entry, after placing 19th in the 27-country Star Class.
Dressage equestrienne Suzanne Dunkley will bring to a close Bermuda's participation in these Games when she competes in the individual final at the Real Club de Polo tomorrow. She is hoping to place at least in the middle of the 32-strong field.
