Blazers invade PHC looking for charity

Charity Cup season-opener at PHC Stadium (8 p.m.) with no significant additions to their squads following the normally large number of summer transfers.

However there are no similarities between the two going into the big kick-off when it comes to an exodus of players, PHC losing only midfielder Anthony Stovell while Boulevard were obviously hurt more by the departure of talented players like defenders Herbie Bascome and Albert Caisey and midfielder Andrew Bascome who still remains with them as coach. It remains to be seen how the moves affect Boulevard.

"I personally think that the only problem facing Boulevard this season will be a lack of depth, they just will not have the extra players like they used to,'' said PHC's skipper Mike Dill.

"Whereas when they always had capable players to move in as replacements, they no longer have this luxury. Without Andrew, Herbie, Albert and goal-keeper Jean Gibbons the depth is no longer there, but they will still be able to field a good starting team,'' added Dill.

There still remains an abundance of talent in players like Wayne Richardson, national team centre-back Leroy Stevens, Brian Anderson, Dwight Warren and Kenny Hill. This is why Dill is quick to point out that his team certainly is not expecting a pushover in this game. "We are expecting a stiff game from them, that's for sure,'' he said.

The match-up sees a repeat of last year's contest, which PHC won 2-0, thanks to goals in each half by midfielder Frankie Ming.

While former stalwart Cyril (Dago) Steede is attempting a comeback for Boulevard, former PHC skipper Derek (Nails) Douglas is doing likewise after missing the majority of last season through injury.

Douglas is expected to start in midfield tonight and not in his familar centre-back position, which will be occupied by young Dano Outerbridge.

Up front PHC will once again be spearheaded by a formidable group of marksmen, led by top scorer Kyle Lightbourne, Sammy Swan and Winston Trott, Jr.

KENNY HILL -- Boulevard's chief goal poacher.
