But while Lightbourne is still in with a chance of further advancement, Bermuda's other competitor, Pat Ming-Albuoy, was not amongst the last 24 from the women's category.

Martina Beckel of Germany and Paeng Nepomuceno of Philippines, lead the 24 survivors of each division into the quarter-finals after qualifying action finished yesterday.

The men played 24 games and the women 18 as Lightbourne finished 21st amongst the qualifiers with a total of 4,726 (196.92 average).

It was Nepomuceno, a two-time champion, who paced the men with a 226 average.

He totalled 5,419 for 24 games.

Kevin Hills of England, came in second after leading through the first two days of qualifications. He had 5,199 despite rolling a 121.

Sweden's Per Svensson had a 297 after rolling 11 strikes in a row. The 27-year-old from Gothenburg still came in sixth. Beckel, 33, averaged 212 for three days and 18 games of qualifications for a 3,818 total.

The top 24 men and women play a round-robin over the next three days before Sunday's final.
