Eagles fly past game BAA

Somerset Eagles booted BAA out of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory at Somerset CC last night.

A pair of second-half strikes by Terrence Christopher combined with one in the first half by Dion Minors ensured Eagles a place in the first round.

In fact, Eagles scored all four goals as defender Wallace Wellman sliced a cross by Gary Flood into his own net nearing full time.

The score did not truly depict the effort put forward by a game Green Knights outfit, who dominated much of the early going in each half.

Unable to convert this advantage into goals, they subsequently ran out of steam, allowing Eagles to stamp their authority on the match.

Minors scored the first goal in the 23rd minute, getting on the end of an Everett Wellman cross from the left and slotting in at the far post.

Christopher capped off a fine display in midfield with tallies in the 67th and 73rd minutes. The latter came from a clinical one-two executed with Antoine Brangman that resulted in Christopher running through and planting the ball past a helpless Philip Bolton.

KPMG 0, Port Royal 4 Nakia Smith netted twice in the first half to lead Second Division Port Royal to this comfortable four-goal victory over their Commercial Division opponents at Devonshire Rec. field.

Smith put his team ahead 1-0 after just 23 minutes and added the second two minutes later.

Midfielder Ricky Brangman hammered home a free kick from the edge of the box after 60 minutes to give Port Royal a 3-0 lead, but Peat Marwick refused to throw in the towel and continued to display a lot of fight and determination.

Irving Bean came up with the goal of the match when he beat four defenders and crashed the ball home from close range after 75 minutes.

Peat Marwick were unlucky after 88 minutes when Ian Rix had his firm shot cleared off the goal-line by centre-half William Tatem. Gary Knight followed this up by putting another effort just wide.

Peat Marwick's goalkeeper Steven Retter then stopped a great effort from Michael Bean as Port Royal finished off strong. And centre-half Tatem followed this up by missing a sitter right on the stroke of full time.

Exiles 0, Wolves 3 Wolves eliminated Commercial Division side Exiles from the FA Cup with two goals in the first half and another in the second at PHC Stadium.

Dion Wainwright opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Marlon Lindsay made it 2-0 in the 24th minute.

Exiles offered brief resistance early in the second half and their best chance came when Antoine Cannonier dribbled into the penalty area only to be denied by advancing goalkeeper Andre Smith.

This was to be their last real scoring chance as the best chances after that fell to Wolves with Lindsay putting a shot wide of the far post and Keith DeShields missing a good opportunity from inside the penalty box in the 77th minute.

Substitute Blake Outerbridge completed the scoring for Wolves in the 80th minute when he scored direct from a corner on the left.
