Firemen end wanderer's perfect run
as they shocked Commercial Division Group A leaders BAA Wanderers 3-2 on Saturday.
BAA had gone unbeaten for almost two seasons but were shown little respect by a determined Fire Services who were led in the scoring department by Steven Caines (two) and Troy Furbert. Frank Brewster and Tony Lambert tallied for BAA.
Fire Services had defeated Island Rangers in their previous outing and after finding themselves on the bottom of the tables three weeks ago are now in a much more favourable fourth position on seven points. They are seven points behind BAA but trail second-placed Forties by just two.
Meanwhile, Forties were the beneficiaries of a 5-2 drubbing of Island Rangers at Malabar. Roy Fellows struck twice for the visitors while Derek Patience, John Dempster and Leon Bascome tallied one apiece.
Winston Burrows and Keith Bremar scored for a Rangers side fading fast after a solid start to the season.
A solitary strike by Robin Hood's premier marksman Des Minors proved the difference in their 1-0 triumph over Lobster Pot, who also find themselves drifting closer to the cellar.
Also in Group A Spinning Wheel managed a 1-1 draw with KPMG.
A double dose of disappointment surrounded the end of Exiles game with North Village Rams as the former not only lost the match 2-1, but also had team member Sinclair Williams suffer a broken arm.
Earlier Paul Trott had shot Rams into the lead only to have Marvin Hassan equalise for Exiles. But with literally the last kick of the game Sidney Lee decided the outcome in Rams' favour.
Another match going down to the wire involved Devonshire Colts All-Stars and Coca-Cola.
All-Stars won 2-1 but nine-man Coke threatened to hold on for a draw before falling to a late goal.
Jimmy Tweed and Earl Godfrey scored for All-Stars while Millard Rawlins did so for Coke.
Winston (Herb) Trott slammed a hat-trick as PHC extended their Alliance Division Group A lead to three points with a 5-2 dumping of third-placed Somerset while closest challengers Dandy Town were held to a 2-2 draw by North Village.
Aiding Trott in the destruction of the west-enders were Casey Burgess and Gregory Steede. Billy Kirkpatrick and Richard Scott got on the scoresheet for Somerset, now four points adrift.
Town needed goals from Lionel Cann and Franklyn Simmons to share the spoils with Village, who had Sherritt Hewey and Sean Dill as their goal poachers.
The other Group A match saw St. George's ease past Boulevard 3-1.
Del Tyrell netted two goals and Greg Foggo one to offset a strike by Wilfred Samuels.
In Group B, Devonshire Colts found themselves involved in quite a battle with Prospect before emerging with a 4-3 victory.
The game had two ties -- 1-1 and 2-2 -- before Colts were able to go up 4-2.
Prospect pulled one back, but this proved too late.
Theron Smith, Harrison Trott, John Richmond and Joey Weeks tallied for Colts.
Tracy Adams, Deforest Evans and Kirk Saunders did the honours for the losers.
Another `barn-burner' had Hamilton Parish outlast Southampton 4-3.
Albert Wolffe, Elton Caisey, Ernest Lathan and Corey Hill found paydirt for Parish. Anthony Tucker and Alfred Wolffe (two) struck for Southampton.
Meanwhile, Port Royal failed to show for their match with BAA, so the Green Knights received their first two points of the season.
WINSTON TROTT -- Hattrick.
