Fisher on the comeback trail
for the first time in two years, established what is believed to be a Bermuda record in a 10,000 metres race in Coquitlam, British Columbia, during the Canadian Track and Field Championships on the weekend.
Although she finished last in a field of only seven runners, Fisher did well to complete the gruelling 25-lap event in 39.26.51.
Fisher, a holder of Bermuda records in the 800m and 1500m, qualified for this summer's Barcelona Olympics but did not participate after giving birth to a child earlier in the year.
She used the meet as a means of working her way back into condition, running the 10,000 metres to improve her fitness.
And, the very next day, she and husband Eddie competed in a 5-K road race alongside a number of international runners.
Jennifer was fourth in her division and 41st overall out of 170 runners. Her time was 19.28.
Husband Eddie was seventh in the masters division and 57th overall, coming home in 20.21.
Bermuda's Brian Wellman finished fourth behind Olympic triple jump champion Mike Conley at the Zurich Grand Prix in Switzerland last night.
Kenya's world champion Moses Kiptanui shattered the world 3,000 metres steeplechase record with a brilliant solo run at the same meet.
The 20-year-old Kiptanui, who failed to qualify for the Barcelona Olympics, clocked eight minutes 02.08 seconds to slash over three seconds off the mark of 8:05.35 set by compatriot Peter Koech in Stockholm three years ago.
Meanwhile, Wellman's jump of 55 feet, five inches, put him in fourth place behind Conley, who leapt 58'2''.
Another American Charlie Simpkins finished second, with Germany's Ralf Jaros third.
