'Gades suffer thrashing

Visiting Scottish Division One side Heriots FP gave up the first points of their three-match Island tour last night but still proved far too strong for local league and Nichol Shield winners Renegades.

Although forced to defend for much of the game, 'Gades did manage to penetrate Heriots' territory but were often thwarted in their scoring attempts by poor passing.

However, after half-time and down 24-0, they put together a number of attacking moves which culminated with fly half Neville Ross feeding full back Andrew Trinder who raced past the covering defence to score. But the game belonged to Heriots who dominated the lineouts and loose play and constantly kept Renegades moving backwards with fitness proving to be the major difference.

Scoring for Heriots were Alan Watt and Tam McVie with two tries and Gerald Bryce, Andy Wallace, Ian Shand, Charles Keenan and Gordon Laurie with one apiece. Laurie kicked four conversions and Henry MacMillan added another.

Heriots defeated Bermuda 41-0 on Sunday and face a President's Select at 6.30 p.m. tomorrow at Nationals in their final match.
