Gosling duo have the right stroke

Caribbean International Age Group Championships in Trinidad with fine performances at the BASA Pool at the weekend.

Jenny swam the 200 metres individual medley in two minutes, 37.94 seconds at the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association's second spring meet on Saturday, while Tiffany swam the 100m backstroke in one minute, 13.65 seconds.

Among the other highlights of the meet was 10-year-old Michael Pantry's performance in the 50m butterfly, where he achieved the qualifying time for training with the national squad.

This weekend, attention at the Saltus pool turns to a 24-hour, fund-raising Swimathon.

Two hundred swimmers are expected to take part in the event, which the BASA hopes will raise $10,000 to upgrade pool facilities.

The event gets under way at 5 p.m. on Friday, continuing until Saturday at the same time.

Members of the island's three swim clubs -- Harbour, Triangle and Sharks -- are taking part, but the BASA hopes that other non-club members will want to get in on the action.

Sponsorship forms and further information are available at the Sportseller in Washington Mall and at Island Trading on Spurling Hill.

Organisers intend for each of the pool's six lanes to be continuously occupied with two swimmers for the 24-hour period.

If all goes accordingly to plan, a total of 1,000 miles will be swum.
