Harvey bowls 'em over
back-to-back winner in the 19-year history of the American Airlines Bowling Tournament.
Harvey was last year's handicap champion and he is now the 1997 scratch champion. His reward: A complimentary airticket from American Airlines that will permit him to travel to the United States, Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean.
Replacing Harvey as the new handicap champion is Vernon Daniels, who will also receive a ticket from American Airlines.
Harvey rolled scratch games of 154, 208 and 269 for a 631 series while Daniels rolled handicap games of 248, 228 and 201 for a 677 series. It was the first victory for Daniels, who, like Harvey, bowls in several leagues during the season.
Harvey, who was bowling without a handicap, also managed to win two games in the scratch division, placed third in the Non-Qualifying Handicap Tournament and also win the high-game prize in that same division.
The tournament concluded after nine weeks of qualifying that saw a total of 155 bowlers participate.
Seventy-one bowlers qualified for the handicap finals and 66 for the scratch finals, with some duplications in the two divisions. Others bowled in the Non-Qualifying Tournament.
