Kavin Smith, the first local finisher at the recent New York Marathon, had to settle for second place in yesterday's Island Press/Bermuda Sun Half-Marathon.
Jay Donawa led home the 82 finishers in the race from St. George's to Hamilton, completing the course in 1:13.25, more than three minutes ahead of Smith in 1:16.35. Third was Errol Cormack in 1:20.06 and Tracy Wright fourth in 1:20.46. Karen Adams was the first female finisher, coming in 14th overall in 1:29.06. Lynn Patchett, the second female finisher, was three places back in a time of 1:31.58.
SAILING SLG A fleet of 12 boats turned out for the second race in the Bermuda Offshore Cruising Association's Fall series in the Great Sound. Monkeyshine , skippered by John Thompson, blasted across the finishing line at around 14 knots to win the racing class over eight legs, while Allessandro Vitelli, sailing Night Train , finished first in the six-leg cruising class.
One boat, Swift of Paget. , had to retire after a crew member was injured and had to be treated by emergency medical teams.
