Lightbourne, Coventry turn back Everton

Liverpool overwhelmed First Division West Bromwich Albion 2-0 on goals by Patrik Berger and Robbie Fowler. West Ham shut out Aston Villa 3-0 as John Hartson scored two more goals to take his season tally to ten.
Newcastle beat Third Division Hull 2-0 as Welsh international striker Ian Rush equaled Geoff Hurst's League Cup goalscoring record of 49 when he scored Newcastle's second seven minutes from time at St James's Park.
