Mark Trott to replace Cymande Davis in the Dandy Town goal for Sunday's FA Cup
Davis, the team's number one goalkeeper this season, is due to fly to Jamaica with the Bermuda Regiment and will miss the final, as will Vasco's midfielder Karl Roberts who is also off to Jamaica. Manders or Ricky Tucker will replace Davis in a Dandy Town team that is likely to see few changes from last weekend.
Ironically a trip abroad two years ago when Town were last in the final, robbed Manders of a trip to the National Stadium as Town went down 2-1 to PHC in the final.
Manders prefers not to look at it as a happy ending to his disappointment of 1992 when he went away on a course for his job.
"It could work out that way, but the main thing is the team wins,'' said Manders yesterday. "It would mean a lot for the club, building other things off this and getting our youth programme back together.'' Manders has made only three appearances in the Dandy Town goal this season, the last back in December when the team lost to North Village. The others were against PHC and St. David's.
Despite the inactivity, his experience will be a vital ingredient as Town chase their fourth trophy of the season. "Ricky has been working a lot so I guess I better get prepared to play,'' said Manders, who has already played in two FA Cup finals with Town. The first was a victory against PHC in a replay in 1986-87 and the second was a loss to Somerset in 1989-90 in the first domestic match at the new stadium.
Town, strong favourites after winning all three meetings against Vasco this season, are seeking to become the first team to win the triple crown (league, FA and Friendship) since North Village in 1978.
Former Dandy Town captain Voorhees Astwood, a key man in the Vasco midfield this season, has a sprained toe and could be doubtful for Sunday, leaving coach John Rebello to possibly make two changes to the midfield. Albert Wolffe and Gary Ray are the options.
"Voorhees has a sprained toe and we will just have to see how it goes with him,'' said Rebello.
"It apparently happened pretty early in the game when a kick from the goalkeeper went straight to him and he hurried off a shot only to kick the ground while doing so or during a collision just afterwards.
"Regardless how it actually happened he has the injury but feels that it has improved a lot already. But thankfully everybody else seems to be fine.'' CYMANDE DAVIS -- Dandy Town goalkeeper will miss final on Sunday because of Regiment duties.
ANTHONY (PORKY) MANDERS -- His experience a key as Town chase fourth trophy of the season.
