Marlins took advantage of a slip by previous leaders Rockfish to seize sole possession of first place by a mere one-half point.
While the latter were being held to a 2-2 draw by fourth-placed Cow Pollies, Marlins were soaring over lowly Dolphins, winning by a 3-1 margin.
Well-known cricketer Barry DeCouto continued to produce outside the playing pitch as he led the way for the victors, bowling a 539 series, third high among the men. Marjorie Correia rubbed more salt in the wound with the women's second high series and top game of 512 and 207.
Slipping slightly off the pace were Wahoo, surprisingly held 2-2 by second from bottom team Mackerel. Wahoo's Doug Hines and Cathee Tumbridge put out superlative efforts but these proved insufficient to dissuade their opponents, who held on doggedly.
Sporting new outfits and in need of a good meal, Piranhas feasted on Angel Fish, devouring them hurriedly 4-0, not leaving so much as a single morsel. In a match pitting teams swimming in mid-table, Barracudas downed Snappers 3-1 with John Maycock registering a 513 series and 212 game.
Other encounters had Tuna whitewashing Porgies 4-0 and Hinds similarly disposing of Sharks 4-0.
Players are reminded that there is no bowling this Friday, but action will resume on October 2.
