New 10K on road race calendar
Bermuda Public Services Association.
The first BPSA 10K has been slated for Sunday morning, October 19 (9.00 a.m.) over a completely new, undulating course.
Runners -- the event is expected to attract several of those heading for the New York Marathon just three weeks later -- will start from the BPSA headquarters on the corner of Angle Street and Cedar Avenue and follow a course that will take them east on Angle Street, south on Court Street to Front Street, onto the South Shore via Crow Lane and east to Brighton Hill.
After negotiating the tough incline over Brighton Hill, the runners will then follow Middle Road west, up over Barker's Hill to North Shore Road, through Blackwatch Pass and to the finish at Dellwood School through Dutton Avenue.
Entry fee is $12 ($8 for members of the BPSA and Swan's Running Club) and forms can be picked up from BPSA headquarters, local sports shops or the Ministry of Youth Development, Sport and Recreation. More information from Karen Smith (297-7771) or Phil Guishard (295-0855).
A new cross country season begins this morning (9.00 a.m.) with the first races of a seven-race series for juniors and seniors.
Today's event, organised by Swan's RC, is mostly over sand, starting and finishing at Chaplin Bay in Warwick.
The series continues at Astwood Park on October 18, at a venue still be announced on November 1, at Daniel's Head on November 8, Spittal Pond on November 15, Ferry Reach on November 29, culminating with the national championships on December 13 over a course still to be decided.
