No place for Caisey in Darrell's ailing squad

making any additions to his squad for Sunday's World Cup second round qualifying match against Canada at National Stadium.

This means that talented left-back Albert Caisey, who on Saturday declared that he was anxious to get back into the team, will not be among those considered in the game, which is more important to the visitors than it is to Bermuda who have already been knocked out.

"I don't feel that it is necessary to bring anyone into the team at this late stage. Barring any disaster I am planning to work with the 17 players we have available,'' said Darrell.

The squad of 20, who left on a three-game tour of El Salvador, Jamaica and Canada just under a month ago has been reduced by three with the injuries of centre-backs Leroy Stevens and Dennis Brown and utility player Neil Robinson.

There has always been doubt over the availability of the trio for this game and on the weekend it was confirmed that neither would be able to dress.

Although it was not news that Darrell and his coaching staff welcomed with delight, they were well prepared to take on the challenge of the Canadians without them.

"We have got the players who can get the job done, we have no problems with that at all,'' said Darrell.

However it was clear that he was not about to get into a dispute over Caisey who has been excluded since participating in the away match against Antigua in the first round on June 14, which Bermuda won 3-0.

Darrell said that he had not seen nor talked to the defender, noting that the only thing he knew about was what he saw in the The Royal Gazette on Saturday.

"Albert is always keen to be involved in our programme, but I've had no contact with him whatsoever,'' was Darrell's only comment. Darrell said that he and his coaching team is now focussed on preparing the squad for Sunday's game, noting that there was a lot of intensity being shown by the players in the few sessions that have been held since they resumed training last week. He was hoping that continued enthusiasm toward the preparation would be demonstrated by the players during the three sessions that remained.

Obviously keen to go out of the competition on a high with a victory over Canada -- and avenge the 4-2 defeat that Bermuda suffered in Vancouver on November 22 -- Darrell indicated that they would be carefully planning final tactics to be used in Sunday's game.

"I don't think we will be making any real different approach to our style,'' said the coach.

GARY DARRELL.
