Pearman, Bean return from US tournaments
competing in qualifying rounds of Ben Hogan Tour events during the past three weeks.
Port Royal's assistant professional Dwayne Pearman and Belmont's professional Cornell Bean were pleased enough with their scores that both said they intend to play more overseas in the future -- Pearman probably within the next two months.
The Port Royal pro has this year made seven attempts to qualify for Hogan events and has advanced beyond the qualifying round only twice -- the second occasion last week in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the first two months ago in Tennessee.
Unlike in Tennessee, however, when he failed to make the cut after two rounds, the 29-year-old Bermudian completed the tournament one-over after the event was reduced to two rounds because of rain.
"It was nice to make the cut. I shot two-under the first day, but wound up finishing on one-over-par after two rounds,,'' said Pearman, who failed to pick up a single birdie on the second day.
Bean, who played in qualifying rounds at Souix City and Cedar Rapids, had moderate success in his two appearances. He shot six-over-par at Souix City and then narrowly missed qualifying at Cedar Rapids with a one-over-par effort which included a costly three-putt at the 18th.
"I played well considering it was my first time in the tournament,'' said Bean. "It was a good experience, I'll probably try again next year.'' Pearman was red hot during a practice round at Souix City after the tournament when he shot nine-under including seven birdies.
He also enjoyed success while participating in a Pro-Am tournament run by his sponsors Chateau Elan Country Club of Atlanta, shooting one-over-par 72 to finish in third place.
