Pro-Am goes to Conley
years, underlined his intentions for the Bermuda Open by winning the Mutual Risk-Exel Insurance Pro-Am yesterday at Port Royal GC.
Conley, a former Bermuda Open winner who last year won the Belmont Invitational and Goodwill Tournament, shot a three-under-par round of 68 to beat defending Open champion Ron McDougal by a stroke.
Conley pocketed $600 for the win and McDougal $500 while five other professionals including Bermuda's Lloyd James won $220 for sharing third place on 70. The others on 70 were Gene Feiger, Kevin Morris, Tom Sullivan and Craig Marseilles.
Bob Mucha shot even-par 71 for $100 and Mike Caporale was a stroke back but still received the same purse.
Bermuda's last Open winner Dwayne Pearman carded a 73 along with James Dolan.
That was worth $50 to them both.
The Open starts today and runs until Sunday.
