Race is on for cup places
each having done so three times -- will both amongst the six teams battling for the last two Camel Cup places for next season.
New league champions Western Stars and second-placed Willow Cuts have already qualified for next season's event, Cuts having done so for the first time even though mathametically St. George's and Bailey's Bay can still finish ahead of them.
St. George's, with six wins on the trot, have climbed up to third in the standings and a win against Cleveland, fifth, will assure them of returning to the competition they won for three straight years between 1988 and '90.
Their match at Wellington Oval should be the pick of the day's matches as Cleveland also have their sights set on a top-four finish.
St. George's beat Cleveland in a high-scoring limited-overs match by three wickets last month as Clay Smith hit 93. With Smith and Dean Minors back in school the balance will be tilted somewhat and this match could go either way.
Cleveland made surprisingly easy work of Bailey's Bay last week, leaving Bay to sweat it out with neighbours Hamilton Parish in their final match at Sea Breeze Oval.
Devonshire and Police, must win their final two matches today and tomorrow to have any hopes of qualifying for the Camel Cup. They meet each other today at Devonshire Rec. and tomorrow the present cup-holders are away to Somerset Bridge while Police host Social Club at Police field.
The most points Rec. can finish with is 139, six more than St. George's presently have and 10 more than Bay. Police can finish on 151 if they get maximum points this weekend.
Nationals should be favoured over Flatts in their final match but maximum points from that match will leave them on 139 points, which would put them short if Bay and St. George's or Cleveland are winners. Then there is always the likelihood of Police or Devonshire behind them winning twice.
Schedule: Somerset v Warwick; Police v Social Club; Somerset Bridge v Devonshire; St. George's v Cleveland; Bailey's Bay v Hamilton Parish; Flatts v Nationals; Western Stars v St. David's; Southampton v Willow Cuts.
The Shell Youth All-Star match today at Wellington Oval will be played under the following rules: All 13 team members may bat (if required to complete the agreed number of overs).

Only 11 players will field but, at the discretion of the managers, two replacements (including the wicket-keeper) may be introduced at water breaks.
Each bowler will bowl a maximum number of five overs.
The match will be a minimum of 30 overs but may be increased with the agreement of the managers and umpires.
