Rebels, Chameleons prevent foes from scoring
Bermuda Men's Hockey League matches at Nationals.
The morning match was four minutes old when Wesley Scraders opened the Rebels account with a well taken penalty, which was followed four minutes later by a Donny Moniz goal as a result of a well drilled short corner.
Police battled with spirit and at times kept the Rebels defence busy as 'keeper Kevin Hill made several saves. Despite the pressure Rebels continued to play simple but effective hockey, building plays through the midfield and supplying quality balls to forward Mark Ray who had an outstanding game.
Ray added to the scoreline in the 31st minute with a solo effort which he coolly stroked past 'keeper Davy Kerr.
Police started the second half with some determined defending by Paul Watson and Steve Cosham, however Rebels controlled the midfield through Nigel Pichery, starving the Police forwards Chris Clark and Lee Uddin. Pichery closed out the Rebels scoring after 55 minutes following a goalmouth infringement which resulted in a penalty.
The match of the day in the afternoon produced only one goal between Chameleons and Wasps which was scored after 52 minutes and was the best goal of the day. It came after a Wasps attack broke down and the ball fell to Chameleons Mike Howard on the 25 yard line.
Howard squared the ball to Rick Morris who looked up and drilled a perfect ball to winger Younie who took a couple of controlling touches upon entering the circle line and soundly struck the ball past the advancing Jamal Bean in goal.
