Referee is assaulted by player

Saturday when the Group B match at Shelly Bay between Park United and new team Devonshire Lions was abandoned 35 minutes into the second half when referee Gernot Wilkie was assaulted by a player.

Winston (Bummy) Martin of Lions, who had earlier been booked, was ejected for a second bookable offence -- ungentlemanly conduct -- and subsequently struck the official which forced the match to be abandoned with the score tied at 1-1.

Forties were the big winners in Group A, hammering North Village Rams 5-2 with Roy Fellowes scoring a hat-trick and Wayne Bean and Brian Fubler getting one goal apiece. Allan Smith and Cal Dill replied for the Rams.

Island Rangers beat Lobster Pot 4-2 with Troy Berkeley scoring twice and Wendell Anderson and Blane Outerbridge with one each for the victors. Michael Evans scored both Lobster Pot goals.

The other two matches in the group finished in draws, 2-2 between Spinning Wheel and Exiles and 1-1 between BAA and Robin Hood. Craig Tyrell scored both goals for Exiles while Des Minors and Stephen Tucker replied for Wheel.

Gary Flood scored the Wanderers' goals in their draw with Robin Hood. Mike Haromy tallied for Hood.

In Group B, St. George's All-Stars had a 4-1 win over Somerset Extros at Wellington Oval, thanks to two goals from Cal Raynor and one each from Antoine Smith and Eugene Crockwell. Radell Tankard replied for the west enders.

KPMG beat Valley 4-1 after building a comfortable 4-0 lead at the half while Devonshire All-Stars and Wolves Pack drew 2-2. Myron Simmons and Stephen Simmons scored for All-Stars and Sammy Lambe and Edward Swan for Wolves. In the other match Fire Service hammered Prison Officers 6-1.

A total of 21 goals came in five Alliance Division matches with Somerset in Group A being the big winners, hammering North Village 7-1. Michael Arorash and Dion Minors led the Trojans with two goals each while others came from George Bremar, Melvin Brangman and Steven Burchall. Richard Wilson replied for Village.

Khari Sharrieff scored the game's only goal to give Dandy Town a 1-0 win over Devonshire Colts while the other Group A contest saw St. George's Colts blank PHC 4-0 at PHC Stadium. Dwayne Richardson, Leroy Robinson, Chae Simmons and Sinclair Smith scored for Colts.

In Group B, Devonshire Cougars hammered Southampton Rangers 5-1 while goals from Ernest McCallan and Worrell Bean gave St. David's a 2-0 win over Prospect. The match between Boulevard and Vasco was not played after neither team showed up.

Saturday's match between Robin Hood and North Village Rams has been moved to Bernard Park from Shelly Bay, starting at 3 p.m.
