Riders battle the elements
racing action in the Pepsi National Motocross Championships at Coney Island on Sunday.
But riders and officials stood firm against the elements and soldiered on despite the unfavourable conditions.
Notable absentees were the Team Honda duo of Justin Belboda and Dupray Joell who failed to show following a dispute with team manager Gary Simons concerning their missing a mandatory track clean-up.
Meanwhile, the father/son team of Donnie and Devin Moss combined for six wins on the day while racing in the 125C and 250C classes respectively.
Both lead their classes in overall points as father Donnie heads Kevin Walton and Devin has Kyle Constable and Evan Lambert trailing him.
Robby Smith put on a spectacular show on his way to two wins in the 250B group but still wound up losing the overall title to Ed Jones after failing to show for the final moto. Jones won that race unopposed to go along with two earlier second place finishes.
More close action took place in the 125B class as Malcolm Raynor and Gary Simons hooked up.
Raynor won the first race, but the wily veteran Simons came back to snatch the last two over Raynor and Aaron Pace.
Chris Maxwell continued to display himself as an emerging force in the 80cc category winning two races before a stalled engine at the beginning of the final race cost him the chance at a hat-trick of wins.
Kemo Simons wound up winning the last race after placing second twice.
The BACU will hold a meeting for all members tomorrow (Thursday).
HERE'S MUD IN YOUR EYE -- Donnie Moss (24) encounters a puddle on his way to victory in the 250C Class at Coney Island on Sunday. Trailing in the background is Gary Simons (3), who recorded two firsts in the 125B Class.
