Royals rally past eaglettes for title double

when they rallied from four runs down to beat Somerset Bridge Eaglettes 10-9 in game five of their championship series at Bernard Park.

Eaglettes seemed to be coasting to victory with a 9-5 lead in the fifth inning but Royals refused to give up and scored four runs off three hits in the top of the ninth to tie the game. They then took the lead in the top of the seventh when Tracy Sharieff led off with a double and came home when Jo-ann Edwards doubled with one out.

Royals, who scored their runs off 12 hits, were led by Melvita Jones (two-for-three), Rose Richardson (three-for-five) and Earlene Wilkinson (two-for-four).

For the losers, Sabrina Richardson and Jerry Swan both went two-for-three.

Dawnette Daniels was the winning pitcher while Yvette Brangman was the loser.

In another match, Blue Sox hammered Sharks 18-3 with Dean Williams going two-for-two, and Braxton Stowe and Larry Darrell two-for-three.

Blue Sox scored 10 run in the first inning while Sharks scored their three runs in the fifth to avoid the shut-out.

Winning pitcher was Robert Dill and combined with reliever Craig Prall accounted for in eight strikeouts. Shannon O'Rourke was the losing pitcher.

In slowpitch, Harrington Partners beat G/C 18-7 as Colin Powell went five-for-five and Al Busby four-for-four to lead the way. Adam Tufts hit two home runs and Gordon Shaw one homer in the comfortable win.

Larry Barnet went two-for-three and Mike Rees three-for-four for G/C as David DeSilva got the win and Dave Lechnor suffered the loss.
