England, travel to St. John's field tomorrow determined to knock Western Stars out of first place.

Rec., whose own title ambitions could hinge on this match, have been slipping down the tables lately but their tour could be just the confidence booster they need to resurrect their championship drive.

Rec. have slumped to eighth in the standings, 46 points behind Stars but with two games in hand. Anything less than maximum points tomorrow will leave Devonshire with a massive gap to close in the last month of the season, especially with games against Police and Bailey's Bay still to come.

Maximum points will also be of great importance to a Stars team chasing their first league title. Anything less than that will leave second-placed Willow Cuts with the opportunity to regain the top spot.

"Anybody can still win it, there's still some 60-odd points out there to get,'' said Stars skipper Gary Brangman, who will most likely open the bowling along with brother Allan.

This match at St. John's could be a high-scoring contest with Devonshire's Albert Steede, who is the first batsmen to score 1,000 runs in the domestic season, looking to continue where he left off in England.

Stars' Jeff Richardson, whose 186 for Somerset Bridge last weekend was both the highest-ever in the Western Counties and the highest of the season, will be the home side's batsman in the spotlight.

"I just hope he (Richardson) can continue with the form he displayed last week,'' said Brangman. "We certainly have the batsmen to back him up as well as the bowlers to support him.'' Stars named their team on Thursday night with four changes from the one that narrowly defeated Southampton two weeks ago. Anthony Foggo returns to open the innings in place of Mike Jones as does fellow batsman Dexter Smith for Cleon Scotland, relegated to a reserve role. Allan Brangman and Roger Leverock bolster a bowling attack that has been remarkably consistent all season always having someone come big from week to week.

Cuts presently trail Stars by six points but have a somewhat easier match with a Nationals team that was denied a place in this year's Camel Cup by Willow Cuts who beat them in the final match of last season.

Nationals, who recently put a spanner in Bailey's Bay's championship push, are an unpredictable side even without captain Darrin Lewis who has returned to school. Lloyd Fray has returned to boost their batting and their fourth position in the standings suggests Cuts would be wise not to take them lightly.

Third-placed Bailey's Bay, who will have the services of Noel Gibbons for the final few games of the season after next weekend, should hold on to their spot after tomorrow's home match with Warwick while fifth-placed Cleveland are away to Southampton Rangers, seventh, in another interesting match.

Schedule: Willow Cuts v Nationals; St. David's v Hamilton Parish; Somerset Bridge v Police; St. George's v Somerset; Bailey's Bay v Warwick; Flatts v Social Club; Western Stars v Devonshire; Southampton v Cleveland.

JEFF RICHARDSON -- Those who missed his splendid 186 last week will want to see the western Stars man in action against the champions.

ALBERT STEEDE -- Devonshire Rec.'s leading scorer on tour will again be looked to as the visitors aim to avenge a Central Counties Cup final defeat at St.

John's field.
