Steve O'Reilly established himself as the Island's top wave sailor on Saturday as he retained his title in the second annual Wyndsynners event at Shelly Bay.

In ideal blustery conditions, judges Alex Outerbridge and Tony Steel presided over the event in which 16 local windsurfers did their best to jump, gybe, ride and loop the large surf that rolled into the bay.

Competitors were divided into heats, each given 15 minutes to display their talent, and only those who the two judges considered the best survived early elimination.

O'Reilly emerged triumphant after a spectacular final which saw five sailors compete -- the others were Niall Aitken, Jeremy Asson, Neil Burnie and John Reddington.
