SOFTBALL SOF Bermuda Amateur Softball Association launched their summer season at Bernard Park last night with a home run derby contest followed by a women's exhibition fast pitch game.
But league play begins in earnest this evening with three women's fast pitch games.
Pareils from Pembroke Community Club take on North Village Angels in the opener at 6.00 p.m., while at 7.30 Peppers from Hamilton Parish Workman's Club meet Southampton Rangerettes. And at 9.00 p.m. PHC will play Warwick Workmen's Club Reds.
Slow pitch action dominates Wednesday's league play with two games at 6.00 p.m. -- Kempe/Whittle against Bowring in a mixed B division game and Bank of Butterfield Flyers against Price Waterhouse Flyers in the mixed A division. At 7.30 p.m., also in the A division, Imperials play Home Run Hogs and at 9.00 Snowballs take on Rego Furniture Potatoes.
Slow pitch action is also on schedule Thursday night while the first men's fast pitch games will be played on Friday -- Robin Hood against Warwick Workmen's Club at 6.00 and North Village Devils against Hornets at 9.00.

Games are scheduled every evening throughout June, July, August and early September, apart from on public holidays.
VOLLEYBALL VOL Local clubs and businesses are invited to enter teams in an all-day volleyball tournament to be held on Horseshoe Bay beach this Saturday, The Bud Light Open, a four-a-side coed event organised by the Bermuda Volleyball Association, will feature a maximum of 20 teams, with six players on each team, two of whom must be female.
Play begins at 9.30 a.m. with a series of round robin matches. The semi-finals and final are scheduled for mid-afternoon.
Registration is $10 per team and entry forms can be picked up from The Sportsman's Shop, The Pro Shop, Foot Locker and International Sports Shop.
SOCCER SOC BAA soccer players are reminded that practice matches will be held every Tuesday evening at 6.00 at Warwick Academy's lower field. The club's prize presentation and dinner takes place on Saturday evening.
