Teen squash team find going tough
Association (CARASRA) Junior Championships yesterday.
A young Bermuda squad lost five of their six matches, the bright spot being Michael Stout's five-set victory over Guyana's Malcolm Sears.
Attacking consistently and overcoming fatigue, Stout rallied to win his under-16 match 9-3, 4-9, 10-8, 4-9, 9-4.
Bermuda's Talent Clarke, Justin Robinson, Steve Smith, Jessica Mitchell and Melissa Harney all lost their matches.
The 12-year-old Mitchell, playing in the under-14 division, turned in a gutsy performance against Tiffany Solomon of Guyana. She won the second set 9-7 only to run out of steam in dropping the next two 9-2 and 9-3. Solomon won the first game 9-5.
Clarke (under-14), Robinson (under-14), Smith (under-16) and Harvey (under-16) all lost in straight sets to Aadil Edoo (Trinidad/Tobago), Vilas Gobin (Guyana), Jonathan Johnson (Barbados) and Nicolette Fernandes (Guyana), respectively.
A team of 10 Bermudians, including defending under-16 champion Nick Kyme are in Georgetown for the tournament.
