The Warriors Bowling League season got off to a slow start last weekend as many of the bowlers seemed to have forgotten either the date or the time of
The night saw last year's champions Commanche bowling short against runners-up Mohican who took advantage to defeat the champions 3-1.
Michael Ebbin of Commanche came on strong in the first game with a 192 scratch game. Andre Place and newcomer Joanne Fubler rolled 172 and 162 respectively to help clinch three points from Commanche.
Kelvin Burt's team, Mohawk, came out to take full marks, but had to settle for a draw as Blackfoot held firm. Burt rolled a 491 series while Lloyd Evans of Blackfoot rolled a 545 series.
Kickapoo had little kick as they were downed 3-1 by Cheyenne. Kalvin Simmons of Kickapoo picked up a 7-9 split on his way to a 481 series as Carolyn Welch of Cheyenne also rolled a 481.
Newcomer Michael Lee had a tough baptism into the league as he was the only bowler to show up for his team, Choctaw, who started with a 4-0 loss by forfeit.
Cherokee's Keith Lapsley used this practice match to roll a 233 scratch game and he ended the evening with a 512 series. Navaho defeated Apache 3-1 as Marilyn Saunders rolled a high game of 169 for Navaho.
Bowlers are reminded that there will be bowling on Friday due the non-arrival of resurfacing equipment. Action is due to start at 6.45.

SOFTBALL SOF The following games, which were rained out on Sunday, have been rescheduled for tomorrow at Bernard Park: Centre Re v Gray and Kempe (6.00, outside); Bud v Harrington and Partners (6.30); Flying Chef v Bud (8.00); Devils v Hornets (9.30).
The play-offs are due to start on Friday. Teams are advised to check the notice board at the ball park.
CRICKET CRI There will be training for all those wishing to play for St. George's in Colts Cup Match at Wellington Oval the next two Thursdays at 6 p.m. All interested in playing should report to Wendell Smith. The match is tentatively scheduled for September 19 at Somerset Cricket Club.
SOCCER SOC There will be training for all Dandy Town Mini-Minor, Minor and Bantam division players at the club on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6 p.m.
North Village Rams will hold a meeting for all Commercial Division players tomorrow (6 p.m.) at the club.
North Village will be holding a training session for Mini-Minors Whites and Reds at Bernard Park on Friday (5.30 p.m.). Anyone wishing to represent the teams this coming season are to attend with full training kit.
Somerset Extros players are requested to attend a training session at the club today (6 p.m.).
GOLF GLF Against a New England team containing some familiar faces, Bermuda are tied 71 -71 after the first round of the International Challenge match between the New England PGA and Bermuda PGA at the Colonial Golf Club in Lynnfield, Massachusetts.
Getting wins for Bermuda yesterday were Kim Swan and J.J. Madeiros over Chuck Frithsen and Chris McClure 3-0 and Anthony Mocklow and Rawn Rabain over Tom Tetrault and Joe Carr, also 3-0.
For defending champions New England, Dana Quigley and Paul Parajeckas, two Bermuda Open competitors, beat Cornell Bean and Herbie Minors 21 -1 . Kirk Hanefeld and Steve Napoli of New England beat Keith Smith and Kevin Benevides 3-0 before Ed Whalley and Gerry Mackedon edged by John Mason and Eardley Jones 2-1.
NETBALL NET The deadline for entering teams for the new netball season is next Wednesday and anyone wishing to enter a team should contact Debbie Saltus between 8.30 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. at 292-2404 for the appropriate forms.
The season is scheduled to start on October 10.
Netts will be training at Bernard Park East tomorrow (6 p.m.). Anyone wishing to play for the team during the coming season is invited to attend.
TARGET SHOOTING SHO Nelson Simons was the Coral Reefs Rifle and Pistol Club's top shooter last week at the Prospect Range with a total of 194 points as Ross Roberts followed closely behind with a score of 190.
Simons was the shooter of the month last month. Members are reminded that the range opens at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9.30 a.m. on Sundays for practice.
VOLLEYBALL VOL A four-member co-ed volleyball tournament will be held on Saturday at Bernard Park starting at 9 a.m. Registration will take place at 8.30.
