TV spot for Goater

clubs, Shawn Goater will promote his talent even further tomorrow evening in the studios of ITV Television in Yorkshire.

The 21-year-old Bermudian has been in the spotlight ever since his 19th minute goal on Wednesday night gave Rotherham United a 1-0 League Cup second round first-leg win over Everton. "I must have had about five or six interviews after the game that night,'' he said.

The next day the Daily Mirror carried a headline that read: "Goater looks the real thing'' with a picture of him shooting the winning goal.

Now ITV is getting in on the act with a live interview with Goater to discuss his performance as part of its programme, which highlights the goals of the week. There could possibly be a plug for the Island with a bit of Bermuda scenery in the background.

"They keep calling for interviews,'' the youngster disclosed. Goater was surprised at the amount of interest the Bermuda public has taken in the match with Everton. "I didn't know so many people even knew we were playing Everton,'' he said.

He and his team-mates are hoping to follow up that performance with a good result against Blackpool.

"The lads are on a high and I'm hoping we can take that to Saturday's game,'' Goater said. "If we don't get a good result tomorrow they (fans) are going to be quick to bring us down to earth. That's how they are over here.'' Next week Rotherham are home to Huddersfield and Goater is looking for good performances in these two matches to stay in the spotlight.

"I'm going to have to prove myself now, I know the scouts are going to be there looking and it's important to follow up. I've not agreed on a contract as yet, that's still the same.

"I think with me getting a big part in the national papers a few scouts will be to our games, so it's important that I play well in these games.''
