Two records splashed at BASA pool!
night with two records being set at the BASA pool.
Bermudian Craig Harris set a national record in the 400 metres individual medley despite placing second to Canada's Vaughn Thompson, while another Canadian, Lisa Flood, lowered the all-comers record in the 50 metres breaststroke in clocking 33.78.
Flood eclipsed by one one-hundredth of a second the mark set by local female ace Jenny Smatt. Smatt appeared to coast, no doubt knowing that a victory in the heat was not as important as a good showing in the final, and was a distant second in 36.04 Conversely, Harris, who competes under the banner of Sharks Swim Club, smashed the old individual medley mark held by Stephen Fahy by nearly three seconds.
An interesting tussle erupted between visitors Robert Braknis and Ricardo Busquets in the 50 metres butterfly with Braknis -- another Canadian -- touching the wall in 26.18, just edging out his Puerto Rican rival.
Other solid performances were turned in by Jean Richardson of Sharks in winning the women's 50 metres butterfly (35.19), Chris Flook, who bettered Thompson's time in the 50 metres breaststroke to qualify for the final -- Flook clocked 30.36 compared to Thompson's 32.74 -- and Florida-based Brevard Swim Club's Katie Ryan, who seized the top spot in the women's individual medley (5:11.02).
