Unbeaten and untied, both North Village Longtails and Bluebirds `B' are riding a crest and this weekend neither showed any intentions of coming off it as
Defending `A' League champions Longtails surprisingly found themselves a goal down early in their match against Police Orioles due to a tally by Claudette Baisden.
However, this lead would be short-lived as Longtails surged forward resulting in Lisa DeSilva twice popping up to deliver the goods in the first half on fine solo runs. Joanne Wilson closed out the scoring with a second-half strike.
Bluebirds meanwhile showed that they have definitely overcome last season's slump, finding little resistance as they steamrolled Police Orioles `B' 3-0 with Ailsa Campbell, Hilda Gray and Alison Nichol all finding the back of the net.
Other matches saw Coca-Cola Cardinals dominate PHC Canaries`B' for long periods only to come up against superb goaltending by Tammy Ray.
However, Ray could not hold out her opponents long enough as Brid La Chapelle snuck one through during a goalmouth scramble for the final score of 1-0 to Cardinals.
Judy Siddle likewise notched the decider for Coca-Cola Cardinals `A' in their 1-0 triumph against PHC Canaries `A'.
Tracy MacPhee set up the shot for Siddle after gaps were exposed in the Canaries defence after enduring intense pressure.
Also taking place was a game involving the over-40s gang against the under-21s and the latter showed the former that this is indeed the age of a new generation with a 1-0 victory.
Goalkeeper Mike Bothelo came good in the clutch when he denied NSC Rebels a dramatic upset of men's league leaders Wasps.
Rebels were awarded a penalty five minutes from time with the score level at 1-1, but Bothelo produced an excellent save to deny his opponents.
Earlier Wasps had got off to a spirited start against a depleted Rebels outfit reduced to nine men through injury and unavailability. They ruled much of the action but came up against solid defensive work by Rebels.
An injury to Mel Caines further weakened Rebels but they continued to soldier on and even take the lead on a penalty conversion by Donny Moniz.
However, it was only a matter of time before Wasps would take advantage of their territorial superiority and this they did when Albert Steede made space for Simon Farrington to fire home.
Chameleons had a much easier time in their game with Police as they blasted the eager, but tactically naive side 3-0 with Steve Moreton (two) and Neil Stone-Wigg the marksmen.
