Vasco cough up $2,500 for Roberts
defender Karl Roberts, the BFA confirmed yesterday.
But the Portuguese club are thus far unwilling to take similar steps to secure the services of North Village forward Sherritt Hewey who will cost them a further $2,500 if they were to sign him on for the season as well.
Roberts and Hewey are two of three players whose transfer requests were objected to by the clubs they were leaving -- the other is utility player Sean Smith of Dandy Town who filed to move on to the newly-promoted First Division team St. David's.
In each instance, the players' clubs had filed objections to the transfers in hope of seeking compensation because they (the players) had come up through their junior ranks. While several other clubs had taken similar action against impending moves by players, the BFA upheld only the objections filed against the moves by the trio.
Among several players who were allowed to transfer after the objections lodged by their clubs were unsuccessful were: Shawn Smith from Devonshire Cougars to North Village, Stevie Wade from Devonshire Cougars to Dandy Town and Walter Musson from Hamilton International to Dandy Town.
The season-opening Charity Cup match between PHC and Boulevard will be played at PHC Stadium on Saturday, September 26, at 8 p.m.
