Way Malloyr ready for showdown

Ricky Mallory was set as the latter downed third seed Jerome Bradshaw 6-2, 4-1 (retired) in their semifinal of the Heineken Bermuda Open last evening at the Tennis Stadium.

Bradshaw was forced to quit in the second set after being hobbled by a recurrence of a painful knee injury.

The second seeded Mallory had controlled much of the action since the two were tied at 2-2 early in the first set.

Today sees Mallory facing Way at 11.30 a.m. in what promises to be a hotly contested match.

Making for all the intrigue is the fact that Mallory, the Island's top ranked player, had hotly disputed his being relegated to the number two position behind Way and threatened not to compete in any further tournaments this year.

He now gets the opportunity to prove his point on the court against an in-form Way, who has breezed past all of his opponents on his way to the final.

Meanwhile, Mark Melvin and Hugh Barit will contest the men's B singles final, Donna Bradshaw tackles Debbie Darrell in the women's final and Earl Leader faces the winner of the Oliver Bain versus Mark Ray match for rights to the seniors crown.
